City police plan to tap a $38,000 federal crime-fighting grant to purchase new equipment, according to a notice posted on the Holyoke Police Department website. Chief James M. Neiswanger was unavailable for comment this morning, but the funding comes from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, which is administered through the U.S. Department of Justice. The total award is $38,066. "It is the intention of the Holyoke Police Department to use the Justice Assistance Grant to purchase police equipment that will enhance our Uniform Patrol Division and Traffic Division, which will strengthen the Holyoke Police Department's mission to 'Serve and Protect,'" the notice states. |
